[List] Top 6 Games of 2015

Originally going to be a top 5, I’ve added an additional game because… Well, I wanted to. heh.
I haven’t played every game released this year so can only comment on those I have and this list consists of 6 games that have offered some of my most enjoyable gaming experiences this past year.

Note: This list contains some spoilers.

6. The Beginner’s Guide

Taking a trip into the mind of Davy Wreden once again in this surreal exploration game makes for one bizarre experience, Davy is narrating a story about his (assumed fictional) friend ‘Coda’ and his life creating small video games, the game takes you on a wild ride through various different interesting areas, Davy likes to change things within the games on-the-fly to further develop the story to which it is later revealed that Coda isn’t too pleased with this.
Definitely not for everyone but this is an extremely interesting video game that really does make you think about life.

5. Emily Is Away

A small and simple game that has you talking to you friend Emily through your high-school and college years, you sit on your XP-styled desktop in your ICQ-styled instant messaging program choosing your dialogue options to talk to Emily and try to get her to realise how much she means to you, despite being an extremely simple game it manages to make you feel hopeless and really makes you think about the choices you’ve made.
Reminds me of my school days on Windows 98se/XP sitting on ICQ, AIM and MSN after school.

4. Dirty Bomb

What do you get when you combine Brink and Counter-Strike with a little Unreal Tournament thrown in for good measure? You get Dirty Bomb, a multiplayer-only shooter that offers twitch-style shooting mechanics with objective based gameplay, you’re able to choose from multiple different classes which each offer their own advantages and disadvantages, the game is constantly being tweaked to offer fair and balanced gameplay. The weapons hit hard, the maps are fun and the gameplay is brilliant, a formula that was initially showcased with Brink is honed in on and tweaked to perfection in Dirty Bomb.
Best bit? It’s free! Play Dirty!

3. Carmageddon: Reincarnation

After it’s unfortunate and extremely rocky launch the latest iteration of the Carmageddon franchise wasn’t going to make it onto my list of top games in 2015 but over the months since it’s release Stainless Games have really pushed the boat out in not only improving the optimisation of the game, they have pretty much made a whole new game with: new post-processing features, new vehicles, new damage modelling, 4+ wheeled vehicle support and support for tracked vehicles.
Carmageddon: Reincarnation definitely wins the award for most improved game this year!

2. Life Is Strange

DONTNODs take on the ‘choices matter’ story-driven game, popularised by Telltale Games I think that DONTNOD have outdone Telltale with Life Is Strange, playing through each episode of the game really did feel like my choices were important and even when you do something meaningless like water your plants you are informed that this action will have consequences in the future and it does, every action you take will change something later in the game.
Despite the douche-bag characters (which honestly add to the experience of the game) and naff choice you’re given at the end, Life Is Strange is one of the best story-heavy games to come out this year.

1. Fallout 4

If you had asked me two months ago whether Fallout 4 would be a game I would be unable to stop playing I’d burst into a fit of laughter as I’m far from the biggest fan of the franchise and I never enjoyed Bethesda’s previous two attempts but Fallout 4 is really pulling me into it’s barren wasteland, one thing Bethesda are great at is creating atmospheric environments and Fallout 4 has these in spades, despite it’s usual Bethesda garbage character development and hilarious bugs, Fallout 4 really is a game that allows you to craft your own story and make your own mark on the world.
Crawl out through that fallout, baby!

Thanks for reading and if you didn’t agree with my choices then that’s fine, you’re welcome to like whatever you want!
